COURSE DETAILS

The Sydney Business School (SBS), which was established in 1997, builds on the traditional strength and reputation of the University of Wollongong. It is the graduate school of the Faculty of Business and offers high quality postgraduate business programs at the Sydney CBD Campus located at Circular Quay in Sydney, and UOW’s Main Campus in Wollongong.

The Master of Business  (MBA) is designed for middle managers, or those aspiring to middle management. General business knowledge will be gained through the foundation subjects, while investigative skills will be gained through the research subject. The Human Resource Management, Marketing, Financial Management, International Business, and Management specialisation options will enable students to develop and demonstrate technical knowledge and skills in these areas. Those who aspire to progress their career through these functional areas or to a general management role would benefit from completing this degree.

12  PILLARS  OF  KNOWLEDGE

The Sydney Business School MBA as  conducted  at the  Kuala Lumpur  campus mirrors what is done  at the home  campus in Australia.  The  12 subjects (comprising  11  core  and  one  fixed  elective) follow  the  same  progression at both places.  This means  that you could  easily  transfer between KL  and  Sydney seamlessly as  the  same  subjects  are being  taught each semester.

At the  KL centre,  half  the  modules  are  actually taught by Fly In lecturers from SBS, where the  key  content  is  shared  by a Faculty  from  SBS  with tutorial support  from a  KL Team  co-lecturer. The  following table  shows you  the  11 +  1  subjects that make  up this  MBA programme, and  the lecturing  collaboration  between KL  and  Sydney.

THE  LEARNING  DEVELOPMENT  PROGRAMME  &  MASTERCLASS  MODULE

We understand  that working adults  may have left an active  academic lifestyle  for some time  while they were building their practical experience.  Coming back to a regimented  course  of  study is very often  a major  challenge faced  by potential MBA candidates. To address this, you will be given coaching  in SIX key academic  skill areas  under our  Learning Development  Programme.  The  six  modules  are:

Workshop 1:  Academic writing expectations

Workshop 2:  Harvard referencing and academic integrity

Workshop 3:  Report Writing

Workshop 4:  Essay Writing

Workshop 5:  Critical analysis and argument

Workshop 6:  Exam Writing (essays and short answers)

To complete your  MBA  experience  we organise Masterclass sessions  with  Corporate Leaders  each trimester.  These  Corporate Leaders always bring  to their sessions real life  lessons  of business  and  contemporary business and  management  ideas.  We have  on average  three sessions  each trimester  and  students always  look forward to interacting with industry leaders.
